SIR – The new bridge on Manchester Road, Bradford, was purposely built without steps to enable anyone to safely cross over a very busy road at leisure, especially the elderly, the disabled, people with prams or in a wheelchair and even cyclists.
Phil Godfrey calls it a monstrosity and mockingly claims that while driving into Bradford recently he saw for the first time a pedestrian using the bridge (Letters, May 9).
I just hope he didn’t take his eyes off the road for too long, looking for things to gripe about. And he should know by now that the project didn’t cost Bradford ratepayers a penny as it was funded by the National Lottery.
Living in Wyke, Mr Godfrey will probably never have cause to use the bridge, but then life’s not all about him.
