SIR – I read with interest your recent article on my Shipley MP Philip Davies, who appears to have gained something of a reputation for voting against the Tory party in the House of Commons.

Like many others in this area, I believe Mr Davies is an honourable MP who puts forward the views of the people who elected him rather than toeing the party line. It is not before time we had someone in public office in Bradford not afraid to speak out and challenge the status quo.

Mr Davies has made his position clear on a wide range of national and local issues. When the Tory leadership has shifted away from the traditional values of the party and the interests of the people who elected him, he speaks out and votes accordingly.

I believe there is a deficit of credible politicians who speak out on behalf of the electorate instead of their own narrow political self interests. Philip Davies is a breath of fresh air in politics and someone we cannot afford to lose.
