SIR – Philip Coote needs to take a reality check if he seriously believes that UKIP is an alternative to a Tory government (T&A, May 8).
In all honesty you couldn’t put a cigarette paper between the policies of the Conservatives and UKIP.
UKIP, like the Government, supports tax cuts for the rich, destruction of employment rights and dismantling of the NHS.
They want to exit Europe immediately, but fail to condemn the massive influence that the American government has on the UK.
They oppose wind farms but don’t call for the removal of American bases that are a blot on our beautiful countryside.
We need members of the European parliament who want to seek improvements in the lives of ordinary working people, not UKIP MEPs in Europe who want out but happily take the generous salary and perks that Europe gives them.
It should also be noted that Labour was the party that did best in the recent elections, winning 291 seats in Tory heartlands.
The UKIP vote, if maintained, ensures there will be no Tory government in 2015.
