SIR – Further to the letter by Sonya Chowdhury, chairman of AFME (T&A, May 5), I would like to add that as well as feeling incredibly ill, many ME patients are too weak to speak, eat or stand.

To further compound their difficulties, the illness is trivialised, denigrated and misunderstood by most members of the public and even medical professionals.

The level of debilitation that this devastating neurological illness can cause is on a par with the final stages of cancer and AIDS.

It is simply a living hell with no end in sight. There are no treatments and no cures.

Please support the campaign to raise awareness.
