SIR – Regarding St George’s Day Parade and the probable decision not to police it after this year – this is a disgrace.
Not only is it our National Saint’s Day (we have St Andrew’s Day, St David’s Day and St Patrick’s Day about which we hear plenty) and Bradford chooses to ignore it completely. How typical of this run-down city.
Young people who are trying to live decent lives and not get into trouble – ie Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, and also their leaders who work hard all year round to help train them – should be given some more encouragement.
The police cannot be so strapped for cash that for one hour once a year they cannot help these young people do something to which they all look forward.
Not only that, but lots of people come to watch this very colourful parade and enjoy the spectacle. It is always well attended and well behaved.
These are not the young hooligans who drink lager and wreck children’s playgrounds, but are children who deserve some recognition.
