SIR – Antony Silson (Letter, April 23) is right. Speculation on food by financial companies is driving up food prices in Britain and all over the world, so that millions of people are being pushed into food poverty.

Why should we and others pay more for our food just so that financiers can get rich by gambling on food prices?

It is easy to feel helpless about this, but we can at least let our MP know that we disagree with the stance of the UK Government on this matter.

I urge your readers to e-mail or write to their MP letting them know that many of us would support stricter European rules on commodity trading.
