SIR – May I ask for the help of your readers for a cause that is very dear to me?
The Salvation Army runs a food bank in Keighley catering for the many hundreds of people who are now finding themselves unable to cope due to benefit cuts, redundancy or having their hours at work reduced due to the current climate of austerity.
There are increasing numbers of people being referred by their GPs due to malnutrition and, as the service relies on contributions from the public, the charity is finding itself pushed to cope with the increase in demand.
The Salvation Army would be able to advise as to what foodstuffs are suitable, as it is not necessarily those that immediately come to mind.
It is very sad that as the 21st century progresses, we find ourselves having to look after the vulnerable members of society in this way, but if you would like to donate any foodstuffs, or make a small donation for them to buy food with, then can you contact them at keighley@salvationarmy.org.uk or on (01535) 662512.
