SIR – After many years of driving around Keighley, I have begun to realise not many other drivers seem to know their car has a secret device called an ‘indicator’. Through your columns, I should like to educate them. If you take a look at your steering column, you’ll find the secret stick that activates a flashing orange light on the outside of your car. It flashes to let other drivers, and sometimes pedestrians, know which direction you are thinking of going. Try it, you may find it useful.
I am old enough to remember ‘trafficators’, and also had to use hand signals when taking my test.
I occasionally still resort to hand signals, especially when the driver of the car in front has not discovered the little stick on the steering column.
