SIR – In reply to Margaret Price (Letters, April 20), I was walking to a friend’s house in Idle on Monday, April 15, when all of a sudden out of a long line of bushes (which were laden with berries) flew this flock of between 30 and 40 birds.
At first I thought it was a flock of starlings but when they settled in a nearby tree I could see they were not. They had this crest on top of their heads and were light brown with markings on their wings.
I too am no expert so I went home and looked in my RSPB Complete Birds Of Britain and found what I’d seen was a flock of waxwings.
