SIR – The BBC has banned the playing of a number of well-known songs on the radio which are now deemed acceptable.
Beatles songs such as Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Relax were banned at the time of their release.
It is ironic that the latest song to be banned by the BBC, Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead, was written by the socialist songwriter Yip Harburg.
The day that Margaret Thatcher died was also the birthday of Yip Harburg who was born on April 8, 1896. He also wrote another famous song about the depression in America, Buddy Can You Spare A Dime.
