SIR – I am replying to Margaret Price’s letter (T&A, April 20) about Waxwings. We also have been visited by these beautiful birds, but not in the last two weeks.
We first spotted them in December 2010, we counted more than 60 in the cherry trees opposite our house. We identified them from our pocket bird book and reported our sighting to wildlife@rspb.org.uk.
The next time we spotted them was in March of this year, in the same trees. This time we counted only around 20. They only stayed for a little while, as the smaller berry trees they feed on have been cut down by the Council.
We are now adding various fruit, which waxwings love, to our three bird tables in our garden.
