SIR – Might I suggest that if Baildon Conservatives are advising people to send their children to school by bicycle (T&A, April 15), that they follow their own advice?
I would love to know if they will be leading by example on this issue. After all, there is already a cost-effective and safe cycling route along the canal which would conveniently arrive next to a private school in Bingley.
Alternatively, heaven forbid, they could send them to a school closer to home, which would require only a pair of legs and save a fortune in school fees.
A great deal of parents in our city don’t have a safe cycle route to school, and to suggest that one could be built from savings in the school transport budget is ludicrous.
As a keen cyclist, I would love to see safer routes, but this is not where the savings are to be found.
