SIR – It seems to have taken Philip Davies an unusual amount of time to discover that Sainsbury’s have no intention of building a supermarket in Bingley (T&A, April 16).
We ordinary mortals, without the gifts of intellect and skills of our ‘Portfolio Holders’ on the Council, could see from the start there was never any intention to build it.
Couple this to the Westfield debacle, and it appears to be more farcical. There must be some Council involvement in the Sainsbury’s affair – who has signed documents on behalf of the ratepayers of Bradford?
In any case, Bingley does not need a supermarket the size of Sainsbury’s – an Aldi or a Lidl (preferably built on the Cattle Market site) would be more than adequate for Bingley. We are well enough served by the large supermarkets in Keighley and Shipley.
