SIR – Is the ‘spare room subsidy’ (bedroom tax) a good example of “we’re all in it together” policy?
Or is it, indeed, yet another attack on the most vulnerable and poorest members of society?
Maybe there should be a new scheme introduced in London whereby MPs stay in council house spare rooms, saving the taxpayer a fortune in paying for second houses they don’t really need.
Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms; now that is essentially social housing as it is paid for by the taxpayer. Let’s see all the MPs stay with the Queen when Parliament is in session. She could charge them all £53 per week for full board and lodgings, thereby fulfilling Iain Duncan Smith’s boast he could live on that amount.
We’re all in it together? I don’t think so.
