SIR – In the T&A (April 10) there was a report about the Council wishing to cut school transport costs, which totalled more than £11 million in 2011/12.
Instead of spending such a vast amount of money on buses, taxis and minibuses, why doesn’t the Council give every able-bodied secondary school child, who hasn’t already got one, a bicycle?
This would encourage independence and fitness and help to reduce traffic congestion problems in the district.
This would be a far cheaper option, and some of the money saved could be used to make safer cycling routes to school.
