SIR – The UKIP letter writers to this paper are certainly consistent, and wrong, about climate change, as Jason Smith demonstrates (T&A, April 10).
Like all of us, and plants, they are carbon lifeforms, and so a certain amount of CO2 is necessary, but too much will cause serious problems as it is a greenhouse gas.
Wikipedia will provide a simple account of the way that CO2 absorbs and emits radiation in the thermal infrared range that he should be able to understand.
For Jason’s information, I am a graduate geomorphologist, the scientific study of the earth’s landforms, systems and processes.
