SIR – Regarding Mr Dickson’s letter (T&A, April 9) regarding the need of a passport to get a job in the UK, everyone has to prove that they are eligible to work in the UK regardless of whether they were born here or not.

To assume based upon looks, that someone is or isn’t eligible, is discriminatory. The two forms of ID needed are either a passport or a full UK birth certificate and proof of NI number. This is what the law requires.
