SIR – It is rare to find any agreement with Bradford Council’s policies, but the proposed change to school transport funding, imposing cost on parents who do not accept the nearest state school, is at least half-right.
But it’s still half-wrong in excluding faith schools from this new charge imposition.
Where parents select a state school which is not the nearest, for whatever personal reasons, then all the costs of conveying the pupils should be borne by those parents themselves: it is not the responsibility of taxpayers to subsidise the cultural choices of others.
So on the subject of school transport, it’s only half a tick for Bradford Council. Some progress made, but could do better.
