SIR – In response to John Cole’s letter (T&A, March 28), in respect of the refurbishment of the children’s playground at Southcliffe Drive, I think he has conveniently forgotten that the three ward Conservative councillors in Baildon contributed £12,000 from Section 106 money and Baildon Parish Council contributed £14,000 in order that a £52,000 grant from WREN for the playground was obtained.
Prior to the application being granted, I contacted WREN informing them that I was fully supportive of the Parish Council’s bid for the work.
Naturally, I was delighted when WREN granted the money, which I thought was a marvellous achievement.
John Cole thought it was rich that I turned up for the photograph by the T&A at the playground, but this was because I received an invitation from Chris Flecknoe, chairman of the Council’s health and youth committee and deputy vice-chairman of Baildon Parish Council.
Councillor Val Townend, Baildon Ward, Belmont Avenue, Baildon
