SIR – My socialist friend, Christopher Hindle, (Letters, January 9), tells us that Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan inflicted economic and financial damage on the world, which I certainly agree with.

However, to say that their actions resulted in the economic collapse of 2008 raises the question, what had the Labour Government from 1997 done to put right the situation and prevent financial chaos?

The answer is zilch, nowt, nothing. Indeed, Labour’s Ed Balls told other political parties to back off calling for greater regulation of those wonderful people in The City.

Seems to me that we shouldn’t just be blaming Thatcher and Reagan!
