SIR – Like Ray Hazlett (T&A, January 12), I could name quite a number of famous people who passed away in 2012 but were not mentioned in the T&A Review of the Year.
One of note was Michael Hurll, producer, who brought us shows such as Top Of The Pops, The Two Ronnies, Comic Relief and created the British Comedy Awards.
But one name that should have been included in the list was that of engineer Eugene Polley, who invented the TV remote control enabling viewers to turn their sets on, off or change channels.
I feel sure no-one would disagree with that sentiment, especially the couch potatoes.
