SIR – In 2005, 97,000 people worked at HMRC. Thanks to Blair’s new Labour Party, by 2010 this had fallen to 66,900.

The current regime is planning a further 10,000 job cuts.

It takes a lot of years to train tax inspectors in this fiendishly complex subject.

The message from our MPs is loud and clear – if you are evading or avoiding tax, it is okay. This is much bigger than social security fraud! Meanwhile the brunt of the cuts is directed at the poor!
