SIR – I did not know whether to laugh or cry recently when Prime Minister David Cameron, with his pet rabbit Nick Clegg, stood up on his soapbox with his usual right-wing Tory arrogance, boasting how well the Coalition has done this last two years.
Except Mr Cameron did not read out the small print, that in reality people who are sick, poor, disabled or vulnerable in society are regarded as nothing. Money has now become a golden idol and is put before them; compassion does not count, sadly, under this Government.
How typical then of the harsh capitalist machine to condemn the less fortunate while holding in high regard the rich, powerful and the successful.
It would seem lessons have not been learned from the ten long, horrendous years under the Thatcher Government of the 1980s. Memories are sadly too short in my view; another five years of Cameron and his greedy capitalist cohorts may jog them, I hope.
