SIR – I believe that the Bradford Rail Users’ Group is looking in completely the wrong direction by insisting that the routes into Bradford Interchange and Bradford Forster Square should be connected.
Their suggested route would completely bypass the city, and no doubt would result in the total closure of both stations – how would this be of any benefit?
Rather, my suggestion of electrifying the Calder Valley line would make much better sense. Consider the possibilities that this would create: 1. Electric services from London to Scarborough, Blackpool North and Harrogate.
2. Re-routing of many Anglo-Scottish services via Leeds.
3. A through electric service between Scarborough and Blackpool North.
4. An improved electric service between Bradford and London – via two alternative routes (East Coast to Kings Cross, and West Coast to Euston). The latter would also offer an improved connection between Halifax and London.
