SIR – Leader of the Council’s Conservative group, Councillor Glen Miller, berated the refuse department (T&A, January 3) because his normal bin collection is on a Tuesday, which this year included Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and his bins were not collected as “the Council had no plan in place to deal with missed collections”.
While I have been critical of the Council in the past, I must come to the defence of the refuse department on this occasion.
In my part of Baildon, where our bins are also collected on a Tuesday, we were all provided with a leaflet advising that our refuse would instead be collected on two Saturdays, then returning to normal the following week.
This has so far worked well, and it would appear that the refuse department may be being unfairly criticised here. I certainly have no complaints.
