SIR – Mr Jennings is at it again with his negative opinions regarding the future of the Odeon (Letters, December 6), that jerry-built structure next to the now hugely-successful Alhambra Theatre, a building of similar construction, now a national treasure after enjoying considerable investment in recent years.

I believe it was Mr Jennings who not long ago suggested that Listers Mill should be demolished for its salvage value in materials. Fortunately his advice was not heeded and we now have a superb redevelopment.

No doubt Mr Jennings will recall that some years ago we lost the beautiful Swan Arcade and the iconic Kirkgate Market to satisfy the corporate appetite of a local development company and the misguided vision of the-then city engineer-come-planning/development supremo. Some legacy we were left with.

With regard to the current economic troubles, these were caused by incompetent politicians and greedy reckless bankers.

I believe that the majority of Bradfordians feel that a saved and refurbished Odeon would enhance the attractions of the city centre more than Mr Jennings’s car park.
