SIR – I forgot to vote for a Police Commissioner, having intended to spoil my ballot paper by writing on it my opposition to the idea of a political officer. However I had reason to complain about the treatment by the police of someone I know when she was questioned about an assault of which she had been a victim, and sent details by e-mail to the commissioner.

That was a few weeks ago and I never received an acknowledgement, and I was not notified that it had not been transmitted. I am tempted to give the elected one a piece of rude advice.
