SIR - How many people know about Disability Living Allowance? Not many carers and maybe not road accident victim Anita Geldard (T&A, October 30).
It's a benefit for disabled people in or out of work that have care and/or mobility needs.
It's hard to claim - a tome of a form to fill in, seemingly unsympathetic staff processing claims, and Government ministers whipping up a moral panic about the numbers of people on the sick'.
Worse still, the test for entitlement to the benefit is subjective. Having care and mobility needs is a matter of degree, not like being out of work' or 'having a sick note'.
The T&A article Benefit cheats to face a crackdown' does nothing to encourage disabled people to claim a benefit that would materially improve the quality of their lives.
That's sad; I see so many people out and about in Bradford struggling with the costs of disability who would benefit from claiming.
