Princess Anne visited the city's Eden Gardens and Wagtail Close independent living project today – a decade on from officially opening the scheme in 2001.
The Princess Royal spoke to tenants of the Clayton Heights housing development, which was purpose-built for disabled people, as they celebrated the scheme’s tenth anniversary.
Judith Newton, chairman of the management board of Habinteg Housing Association, welcomed the Princess, saying that “disabled people should have the same opportunities as non-disabled people and go about their lives free from physical and social barriers”.
She described the scheme as a “gateway to increased confidence and opportunity” for tenants.
The £2.7 million project is a partnership between the housing association and Bradford Council.
