The diverse mix of buildings at Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital is being used as part of a major study by Cambridge University experts which should lead to a revolution in future building design. The scientists are investigating ways of increasing the resilience of hospitals to climate change while at the same time meeting stringent carbon reduction targets over the next decade.
The project’s findings could have far-reaching national and international significance, according to Ian Hinitt, deputy director of estates at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The study is being funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council with support from the Department of Health.
