A BUSINESS has been badly damaged when a transit van caught fire, with smoke spreading to neighbouring units.
A man also suffered burns in the incident, which happened at a business unit at Royds Enterprise Park just before 8am yesterday.
The man had called 999 when the van, parked in the unit, caught fire.
When crews arrived they found thick black smoke seeping out of the building.
They had to break down the units roller shutters, and eight fire fighters in breathing gear went inside the business to tackle the fire.
The fire spread from the van to the building, and smoke to at least four adjacent units.
Odsal Fire Station watch commander Phil Warden said: "The fire caused significant damage to the business, it will probably take them a while to recover.
"When we got there we could see thick black smoke rolling out of the building.
"We were there about three and a half hours."
He said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation, although it was most probably an accidental fire.
The man in the building at the time suffered slight smoke inhalation and burns to his hands and face. They were taken to hospital by ambulance.
