A FORMER transport building is being converted into apartments.
Blazefield House, which had stood empty since 2019, is being transformed after planning approval was granted by Bradford Council.
Applicant Hameed Islam is converting the two-storey building – at the junction of Suresnes Road and Russell Street, Keighley – into eight apartments.
The £500,000 scheme is creating a mixture of one and two-bed apartments.
“The building was formerly used as offices by Transdev but it has been vacant for a long time,” said Mr Islam.
“This scheme is creating eight luxury apartments.
“My father spent most of his time making windows on Russell Street and over the years we have acquired many buildings to convert into apartments.
“We started the conversion trend in that area over 15 years ago and others have followed after seeing how successfully we have done it.
“We’d identified that the commercial market was declining so it was then we diversified and redirected our vision to residential.
“The flats will be of a high quality and are next door to a doctors’ surgery.”
Work on the scheme has begun and is scheduled for completion by the end of June.
Planning officers said the project did not involve any significant external works.
