Hidden treasures of Keighley and surrounding villages are highlighted on spectacular new artwork.

The town, plus Cross Hills and Haworth, are among places featured on a giant map created by acclaimed artist Angela Smyth.

Painted in her trademark quirky style, the piece aims to promote the character of the South Pennines.

It was commissioned by regeneration company Pennine Prospects, and will be made into a series of canvasses and foldable maps for use in visitor information centres across the region.

Angela said: “This project was a joy to work on. I was given complete creative freedom, which is extremely rare and a real show of faith from Pennine Prospects.

“The result is certainly not a map in the traditional sense and it wouldn’t pass muster with Ordnance Survey! It’s my own interpretation of this fabulous area – a reflection of the things I find inspiring.

“It was an organic process. The map took on a life of its own and eventually ended up filling six very large canvasses.”

The work, carried out in the artist’s West Yorkshire studio, took six months to complete.
