SIR - It is a sobering thought that people such as your correspondent, Jane Thewllis, should draw pride from the fact that two fanatics from Just Stop Oil hail from Bradford, (T&A, October 1).

Far from deserving any commendation, such self- indulgent actions as the throwing of soup on a painting by Van Gogh merits derision and unequivocal condemnation.

The climate has always changed and will continue to change, independent of any human agency. Despite assertions to the contrary, it is not clearly understood to what extent human actions are contributing to what is described as climate change. Natural weather events, such as flooding and storms are being too readily ascribed to climate change which is encouraging alarmism and fanaticism.

It was only in the 1970s when fears were expressed of an imminent Ice Age, whilst now claims are made in the opposite direction.

It is to be hoped this present irrationality gives way to greater counsel.
