SIR - Not many reasons to visit Bradford city centre in my opinion, and here is yet another good one.

We arrived in the Upper Piccadilly area at 5.30pm for a birthday celebratory meal. Daytime street parking charges finish at 6pm so we paid £1 to park from 5.30 pm to 6pm.

Evening parking charges commence at 6pm and it costs £1 to park from 6pm until midnight. However, you can’t pay the evening charge in advance or pay an overlap when arriving before 6pm. We tried, but the machine wouldn’t take any extra money.

This means remembering to leave the restaurant at 6pm to go back to the car to pay another £1. Of course by the time we remembered to go back, before 7pm, we had received a parking ticket. The ticket for parking between 5.30pm and 6pm was in clear view.

The same thing has happened to us once before and the ticket was issued at exactly the same time. The traffic wardens are obviously waiting in the area to catch people out and spoil their evening.

If people are heading to Bradford for it’s 2025 Year of Culture celebrations they need to bear this in mind. I certainly won’t be, it’s most unwelcoming.
