SIR - Page 3 of the T&A on August 2 reminded me that I did not buy my tiny parcel of shares in The Post Office to make a fast-buck!

I made the purchase to secure a permanent stake in a British icon. It will be inevitable that the proposed change in ownership leads to a mountain of debt being piled onto the Post Office for it to service, as happened before to Morrisons, whose shares had to be compulsorily purchased from me.

This technique of piling debt onto the acquisition is the “unacceptable face of capitalism” and I trust the Government will prevent the takeover of this vital public service.
