SIR - In response to David Mann's letter (T&A letters, June 15) with regard to his brother working as a linotype operator.
When I left school in 1975 I had a five-year apprenticeship as a bookbinder and print finisher as the printing trade was looked on with regard.
Last year I had a technician come to check my broadband connection, he saw my City & Guilds certificate and laughed when I said it was one of the trades to be in. I also said that in 50 years time people might laugh at what they are doing for a profession now, times are changing all the time.
