SIR - It’s 5 o’clock somewhere but it’s always two minutes past 12 in Shipley.

I hope the implementation schedule of the Shipley Town Investment Plan, acronym TIP, will conclude that the iconic Clock Tower will be retained and funds allocated to fix or replace it.

A new clock, something big and assertive to mark the revival of the town, something like the neon lit clock on the Oviatt building in LA. Something bright enough to be seen right along the Aire Valley and recognised as a land mark by arrivals landing at LBA. Or maybe even digital to symbolise our place in the 21st century. Either way, if we have it, please wind it up and make it work.

Incidentally of the £25m levelling up grant only £6m will go to Project B, the town centre refurb, which also has to cover “providing accessible walking and cycling facilities on new routes linking the town centre to the periphery and Canal Road Corridor”.

Oh good - more desperately needed cycle paths.

If we want increased footfall in the town square make it somewhere people want to go, make it easy to get in and out of and delay the creation of more cycle paths until we have demand for and use of them.
