SIR - Bradford Council is quite right to protest over the anti-social nuisance fireworks are today, not just in Bradford but all over West Yorkshire.
As a boy in the 1950s, I recall them only on sale just before November 5, never after! Today they’re promoted as ‘fun’ for any occasion. The ‘enjoyment’ only for those lighting the touch-paper, not others being disturbed by them.
Surely an outright ban on the public sale of fireworks is needed. Also, an end to the outdated ritual of ‘Plot Night’ which celebrates, if you can call it that, persecution of Roman Catholics by King James 1 by burning an effigy of a human being.
