SIR - People should not believe that the Government is giving them money towards their energy bills.

The money is given to the energy providers as a subsidy to ensure their profit margins remain at the levels expected.

I firmly believe that all utilities should be state owned and run and have if that was the case, there wouldn’t be a need to raise prices as we wouldn’t be beholden to shareholders.

Unfortunately the Tories are ideologically opposed to state ownership and prefer to hand money to grateful party donors rather than have ordinary people reap the benefits.
