SIR - John Pennington’s letter (T&A, November 12) highlights the very poor situation of unlit street lights on the Shipley Airedale Road.
I have great concerns that across the Bradford district the majority of road island bollards are unlit and have been for a very long time. Why is this allowed to continue?
In previous times any road works had to be surrounded by orange flashing lights to warn motorists of the hazards so why now is this any different and should we not have the bollards lit?
The unlit islands pose a big hazard to motorists and pedestrians alike. Can the council explain the reason for not protecting the public from potential life threatening situations and when will remedial action be taken?
I suggest that the vast sums of money taken from motorists by the council for speeding and bus lane infringements be used to rectify the appalling situation.
