THE youngest nominee at this year’s awards, Macey Wood-Trice has been shortlisted for Star Student for the contribution she makes to school life at Wycliffe CE Primary.
Serving Head Girl, Macey organises school events for her fellow pupils, and also lobbies the school management for change.
On top of that, headteacher Denise Baxter said Macey is a “friend to all” at the school.
Mrs Baxter said: “When you walk into a Year 6 classroom it is SATs overload, but she will just say, ‘Three more marks on the test this week Mrs Baxter’.
“The next week it will be five more marks; there is just this constant undercurrent of wanting to do better.
“We are a really diverse community here, we have children with significant need and we have children who excel, who struggle academically but excel creatvely, so it is nice to have balance, but a few more Macey’s would be lovely, I will be honest. It would make my life a lot easier.”
When she found out she had been shortlisted for the award, Macey said she “couldn’t believe it at first”.
She said: “I was really happy, it was just unbelievable.
“I really want to be a sports teacher, that is what I’ve always wanted to be since I was younger. Either that or a judo coach.”
