JULIET Wright, who grew up a stone’s throw from Bankfoot Primary School, has served as the school’s headteacher for more than 15 years.
When she took over, the school was in a poor state, but since then it has been on an upward trajectory under her tenure, and was most recently rated Outstanding.
Eric Fairchild, a school governor, said he has seen how the school has developed and improved thanks to Mrs Wright’s leadership.
He said: “Juliet’s leadership has improved the school year on year.
“Bankfoot achieves results that are well above national averages.
“Some pupils arrive at school with little or no English but this is not regarded as a problem.
“These children soon become competent in spoken and written English and within a short time they are achieving equally with their peers.
“Our school was rated Outstanding in 2016, and Juliet modestly regards this as a team effort. She still aspires to higher levels of excellence for the school.”
As well as her work in turning Bankfoot Primary into an outstanding school, Mrs Wright has also become an accredited Ofsted inspector, and regularly shares her expertise with other schools in the district to improve education in Bradford across the board.
