ARNOLD Raistrick was described as having “infectious enthusiasm” as he was shortlisted for the Nursery/Primary Teacher of the Year award.
The teacher, from Thornbury Primary Leadership Academy, helped his class reach the top one per cent in the country for progress in maths, top two per cent for reading and top seven per cent for writing.
As well as raising standards in class, he is also committed to providing superb extra-curricular activities for pupils.
In her nomination, headteacher Clare Daddy said: “Arnold has been a hugely positive influence across school.
“He has taught Year 5 and year 6 and all his classes have made outstanding progress due to his consistently outstanding teaching.
“This is down to his extremely high expectations, determination and absolute belief that every child will achieve.
“He fully immerses himself in all aspects of school life. He runs many after school clubs and sports clubs.
“Arnold is the first outside each morning and often the last to leave school.
“He goes the extra mile every single day and his enthusiasm is infectious.
“He has a lovely manner and I am proud to say that he is one of our teachers.”
