SUE Roberts, of Haworth Primary School, is retiring at the end of this school year after 34 years of teaching in Bradford.
She has been nominated for the Nursery/Primary Teacher of the Year award for her “hours of time and enthusiasm” she commits to improving the health and wellbeing of both pupils and her fellow staff.
The specialist Physical Education teacher began teaching at Parkside Middle School, quickly forming a running club, netball teams and running other clubs.
Eighteen years ago she joined the team in Haworth, teaching cycling proficiency every year with a 99 per cent pass rate, introduced the annual Haworth Bunny Run.
Ella Roberts, who nominated Mrs Roberts, said: “Sue has made Haworth into a centre of excellence for sport.
“Sue believes in encouraging children to compete in new sports and enters team in all the local competitions.
“Sue makes PE fun for all and has for the last 34 years.
“She is always running clubs and activities encouraging pupils to become health conscious and physically active.
“She is retiring from teaching but hopes to remain involved in sport. I am her daughter and I have seen the hours of time and enthusiasm she puts into her job.”
