Administrators of clothing retailer Peacocks, which has two branches in Bradford, are looking to sell the business as a going concern and have urged potential buyers to get in touch.

More than 40 staff at the Peacocks concession in the Morrisons supermarket at Five Lane Ends, which opened in June 2010, and those at the Forster Square retail park branch are among 9,600 workers whose jobs have been put at risk following the group’s decision to appoint administrators after trying unsuccessfully to restructure its £240 million of debts.

Cardiff-based Peacocks, which owns 611 stores and 49 concessions across the UK, appointed KPMG as administrator to its high street business and parent company The Peacock Group.

KPMG said all Peacocks stores would remain open as it seeks to find a buyer for the business.

Meanwhile, rival budget clothing chain Primark, which has a store in Bradford’s Kirkgate Centre, saw sales boom over its Christmas trading quarter. Owner Associated British Foods said total sales at its 232 European stores were up 16 per cent in the 16 weeks to January 7 compared to a year earlier.
