Skipton-based GE Mobile Solutions has been purchased by technology firm Masternaut for an undisclosed sum.

The Leeds-based company expects the acquisition to consolidate its position as a leader in the UK technology market and hopes to see the value of its contracts soar.

GE Mobile, who specialise in mobile data solutions for the field service and logistics marketplaces, will continue to trade from their Skipton site which is expected to expand following the deal.

Both Masternaut and GE Mobile, formerly known as Three-X Communications prior to its takeover by General Electric in 1995, operate similar businesses.

They design technology to allow transport and logistics companies to communicate with their drivers via hand held computers.

Their businesses works across nine European countries and both include blue chip companies among their clients.

GE will now trade under its former name of Three-X Communications.

Martin Port, managing director of Masternaut, said he expected contract values to rise to £20 million in the next 12 months as a result of the move.

He said: "GE Mobile Solutions is a perfect strategic fit for Masternaut, particularly as their business proposition is similar to ours.

"By integrating both product ranges we will be able to offer the most comprehensive range of mobile solutions currently available, helping businesses streamline and automate their processes, eliminate inefficiencies and most importantly save money."
