Five property professionals are gearing up for a 130 mile coast-to-coast cycle ride to help young people in Yorkshire.
They are hoping to raise at least £2,000 for the Being Bel Trust, in Ilkley, set up to buy care and equipment for Bel Young, who was paralysed in a fall from a climbing frame, and Martin House Children’s Hospice, in Wetherby.
The riders are Simon Prest and Neil Robinson, from Redrow Homes, Mike Atkinson of Atkinson Associates, Neil Clark, of Bracken Developments, and Mark Taylforth, of Pendle Property Developments.
They’ will be cycling from Scarborough to Morecambe over two days on Wednesday and Thursday, May 25 and 26, with an overnight stop near Leyburn.
The challenge was the idea of Mike Atkinson to help good causes, including the one in Ilkley where he and Neil Clarke both live.
Mike said: “Bel’s unfortunate plight is well known in Ilkley.
“She was left paralysed after falling from a climbing frame in a neighbour’s garden.
“Her parents set up the trust to buy specialist equipment and care and we thought it would be good to do something to help.”
Martin House Hospice provides care for children and young people with progressive, life-limiting illnesses, and support to their families.
Redrow’s Simon Prest, who lives in Skipton, said: “We’ve supported Martin House previously and we’re pleased that we can combine something we all enjoy – cycling – with raising much needed funds for those less fortunate than ourselves.”
