Investment in new equipment to expand its operations into new product areas is paying off for a Bradford-based print company.

Alpha Media Solutions, based at Tyersal, has increased its turnover with several new business wins in recent months, in particular a partnership with a national equipment hire company.

Al[pha has worked with Dewsbury-based Mabey Hire Services, a national company specialising in the manufacture, supply and contract of temporary works equipment, which is part of the global £150m Mabey Group.

This contract came after a series of new business wins for alpha, putting the company on track to achieve a turnover of more than £7 million next year.

After a re-branding exercise, Alpha produced all of Mabey’s marketing materials in its new corporate style and working to short time scales. The order included high quality brochures and marketing materials for exhibitions Simon Rose, Alpha’s sales and marketing director, said: “It was essential for us to focus on new business this year in order to continue driving the company forward.

“It is a testament to our quality and service that we are working with global brands such as Mabey.”

Julie Greenough, marketing manager at Mabey, said: “After re-branding, we really wanted our new marketing material to reflect the ambitions of the company and this was certainly achieved with the high quality products we received.”

Mr Rose said Alpha made a conscious decision to invest in new machinery and expand its products in 2010 in order to appeal to customers in new markets. This was coupled with efforts to create new business opportunities and form relationships with other companies in the region.

Earlier this year Alpha, which employs 85 people, upgraded its specialist printing processes by installing a new ‘variable data’ inkjet system.

The new kit was designed to boost capacity by around 30 per cent.

Alpha also invested in other state-of-the-art processes, including new press rollers, gumming, blister varnishing as well as cutting and perforating systems.

The company started four years ago as a printing services business and installed its first press around 18 months ago. Since then it has completed print jobs for the top 100 global brands including brochures and folders and cutting and packaging.

Alpha is the largest production hub of pocket media products Z-Cards, after winning the sole European franchise to print and finish them. Overall, Alpha carries out print and finishing work for clients in the UK and Europe.
