MORRISONS has recorded its first rise in sales since December 2013.
The latest grocery share figures from Kantar Worldpanel, published today, show the Bradford-based firm has seen a sales increase of 0.1 per cent. The figures are for the 12-week period ending May 24 this year.
Morrisons is the only one of the big four supermarkets to record a sales increase. Asda sales decreased by 2.4 per cent, Tesco sales fell by 1.3 per cent and Sainsbury's fell by 0.3 per cent.
This is a timely boost for Morrisons ahead of its annual general meeting on Thursday.
These are not official sales figures but are a survey of 25,000 shoppers. But the sales figures are seen as an accurate barometer for the supermarkets' sales plights.
A Morrisons spokesman said: "We are pleased to see that the Kantar survey shows we are heading in the right direction."
